I feel like a friggin’ moron

Okay, so I’ve been hearing about wordpress and by extension, comicpress. The founder of wordpress  was interviewed on Gavin Newsome’s show and the Sequlab podcast mentioned Comicpress a few times. So I check it out and look into using it for my web site. I follow the five minute easy installation and I’m getting lost almost at step one.  The talk of PHP and SQLs just hit me and I scratch my head wondering what the hell they’re talking about.

A friend at work took a list and offered to help, and it looks like my hostway account isn’t set up to allow wordpress to work. He even made a very kind offer to make it simple on me, but there’s a part of me that sincerely wants to learn this shit. However there’s a nother part of me that fears that it’s just beyond my capacity to understand. That last part is likely to lose though.

So I’m leaning towards trying to do this myself, with help if need be, but mostly myself. I ‘ve been inclined for a while to change web hosters. I’ve been where I’m at mostly due to inertia. I can find cheaper plans out there, and ones that will allow me to use wordpress.

But seriously, trying to figure this out today has made me feel like a friggin’ moron.

Pardon the Dust

Welcome to the revamped Carpal Tunnel Press. The header is temporary but the layout looks like it’ll stay that way for a while. The purpose is to make the comics easier to read, and especially since I plan on resuming Jet-Pack Jenny and the Factor of 01. I can’t say when the next strip will be posted, but it’ll be soon.

Thanks go to Chris McCorkle, who came to my help when I was ready to give up on WordPress when it turned out that my previous web hoster hadn’t set me up to use wordpress. Chris was really cool to help out like he did and you guys should throw him a little love over here.

I’ve still got a little work to do, such as building the gallery and the store. In the meantime, keep coming back for new posts and new comics!

Turn and face the strain

There’s gonna be some big changes going on pretty soon around me, and I want to let anyone following the strip that updates might be a little bit sparser over the course of the next few weeks. I can’t go into details right now, but in line with living my life online, you’ll know when I can tell you.

Now, over the course of many years, I was posting on livejournal almost primarily, and since re-establishing this site in a way that I can post everything here, I’ve ignored it. I’m going to attempt to transfer things over here as efficiently as possible. I’m also going to do it with the original posting dates, so even if you don’t see new posts, the archives will be filling up. If you pay attention to the tag cloud, you’ll see it changing. For those of you new to my stuff, these old posts may prove interesting.

I’m almost done with the next strip, but it might be as late as next week when it posts. An updated old strip will be posted as soon as I can draw some pigeons and add them to the foreground.

Stay tuned!

About Comments

Since I started using WordPress, I have gotten 125 Comments, and out of those, 12 are legitimate comments. That bothers me a little, but it is the reason that I went over to WordPress was the ability to have comments from anywhere on my blog. I appreciate it when you post a reply to the link I cross post on Twitter or Facebook, but while you’re at it, do you think you could add a comment over here? I review all comments, but that’s only so you don’t have to see the 113 comments that are spambots.

No More Links Page?

That’s right, boys and girls, I’m going to be getting rid of the links page.  You may have noticed a couple of 200 pixel banners pop up over on the right hand side. As I figure out this WordPress thing, I realize just how easy it can make navigating the site for you guys. These will open in a new tab or new page depending on your browser settings.

Also, in about a month or so, you’ll see a new little change take place. I’m going to print my comics through Ka-blam! They’re actually local to Orlando, and the quality of late has been really good.  The print job will be more professional, and I can probably make profit a lot easier since I  won’t have to guess at the price of ink going into a minicomic. Everything will remain in print. There will be a few changes, like Flight of the Virginia Dare being a single issue instead of two books and the previous collects of Artist’s Journals will be retitled within the Bunkee series, most likely #0 and #1/2.

That being said, Happy New Year!

Reminder About Comments

One of the reasons that I started using WordPress was to get comments from readers. This is just a reminder that while I appreciate it when you post a reply to the link I cross post on Twitter or Facebook, I really love when you add a comment here. It doesn’t take any more time, so please add a comment whenever you read a post. I do review all comments, but I don’t delete any that are legitimately from readers.
